PAINT WORKS
Color Change/Flip/Negate for PAINT 128 pict. & brus. files
by Rick Ferreira and Bill Foster
PAINT WORKS allows you to change the color, flip vertically or
horizontally, and color negate any pict. or brus. created with Paint 128, DC
Convert, Geoconvert or K Convert.
The ability to change colors is not found in any 80-column paint
program, at any price. While the other three features are available in
PAINT 128 (from LOADSTAR 128 #8 and #11), you have probably noticed that you
can only flip or negate a very small screen area. PAINT WORKS changes that:
you can perform these transformations on any size graphic, all the way up to
a full screen.
STARTUP
The title sequence may be skipped by pressing any key during the
Walrusoft logo.
SETUP
Select your SOURCE and SAVE drives. Disk drives #8, #9 and #10 are
supported. Note that you press 1 in order to choose drive 10. If you use
drive #9 or #10, make sure it is attached and turned on before running the
program.
Now you may proceed with PAINT WORKS by pressing 'p' for a pict. file,
'b' for a brus. file, 'r' to re-assign your drives, or 'q' to quit to
LOADSTAR, if it's in the drive.
PAINT WORKING
After you've chosen which type of file you want to work on, enter the
filename, or press F1 to display the drive directory, seven filenames at a
time. Now you can press SPACE for seven more names, or D to get the
Filename prompt again. Notice that the "pict." or "brus." prefix is already
entered for you. If you change your mind and want to load a "brus." when
you selected "pict." above, you can use the DELete key to erase the "pict."
and enter "brus.". If you just press RETURN without entering anything,
you'll go back to the P, B, R, Q menu. Wildcards are accepted.
Once loaded, the screen border will flash green while the pict. or
brus. is stashed back into memory. Whenever the border is green, the
program is busy with housekeeping duties.
While working on your graphic you may press 'h' to get a HELP screen to
show you the options. These are:
C - change color
F - flip vertically
M - mirror horizontally
S - save or discard picture (this is how you get out)
R - redo from start with original picture
N - negate colors (Try this to see what it does. Then do it again to get
back to where you started.)
H - takes you to this HELP screen from the view mode
When you choose C, you will be presented with a menu of colors to
change 'from' and 'to'. Identify the color you want to change, then select
the corresponding number or letter for that color. Then do the same for the
new color. After selecting each color, the changed graphic will quickly
wipe onto the screen.
If you press S for Save, you'll be prompted to insert your SAVE (or
Destination) disk. The options during the save process are identical to
those listed above for loading a graphic. Remember, just press RETURN if
you don't want to save the graphic.
Finally, you'll be asked if you want to do another or quit.
TECHNICAL NOTES
You may load either a color or monochrome graphic into PAINT WORKS. A
monochrome graphic will be changed into color format so that color changes
can be done. You may still use it in PAINT 128's monochrome mode by simply
loading it into PAINT 128 while in monochrome mode.
THE PLUG
The authors publish "ANTE UP: The Basic 8 Graphics Translator", a
full-featured 40- to 80-column translator which converts Koala, Geos, and
Doodle into FOUR 80-column cell sizes, as well as converting Print Shop and
Computereyes. Seven styles of Geos translations are offered. Also,
80-column pictures and brushes may have colors and CELL SIZES changed.
This program is for those with advanced translation needs. ANTE UP
requires 64k of video RAM and is available from:
